About us

Between 2019 and 2022 Rapid Charging Devon involved a consortium of partners working together to build a network of rapid electrical vehicle charging hubs across the county. Originally part of an Innovate UK funded project, the scheme has now moved onto the next phase, led by Gamma Energy and WENEA.

Partners

Wenea

Wenea is a leading mobile energy operator. Part of the wider Diggia Group, Wenea operates one of the largest rapid EV charging networks in Spain with plans to deploy an extra 470 charging stations by the end of 2022.  Wenea will own and operate the Rapid Charging Devon network. This is an ambitious project that will provide a template for other on-street charging initiatives across UK cities, towns and villages.

Devon County Council

Devon County Council partnered with Gamma Energy and other private companies in 2019 to install 150 electric car charging points under an Innovate-UK funded program. This consortium ended in 2022 and Gamma Energy is now deploying the infrastructure across Devon. DCC see this project as a vitally important pollution reduction initiative. Rapid Charging Devon will both increase the use of electric vehicles through the provision of an improved charging infrastructure, alongside developing shared vehicle capacity in the area.

UK Research & Innovation

“This is a hugely exciting project and will place Devon at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution in the UK. This state-of-the-art technology will deliver rapid on-street charging solutions which will enable access for neighbourhoods across the county. A particularly exciting element of this scheme is the co-location of car club electric vehicles which extends the reach beyond EV owners, opening EV use to a whole new audience.”
